Towels, not trails
Bathroom elf ideas
The bathroom is a good night when the kitchen is still full of dishes. Towels, a dry tub, a mirror, and a soap pump are the whole workshop. You do not need to unpack a bag of cotton or unroll anything down the hall. Keep the sink usable. Toothbrushes stay in their cup. The soap pump stays closed, because a speech about handwashing does not require a puddle of soap. If the elf goes in the tub, the tub is dry and the faucet stays off. A board book boat and a washcloth sail read as a joke. A wet tub reads as a chore you assigned to your morning self. Notes on the mirror should be one sticky, not a mural, and they should peel off cleanly. Skip loose hair ties, cotton swabs, and anything a toddler would test with their mouth. The cape, the turban, and the paper crown live on the counter, and paper scraps go in the bin before you leave the room. Two elves can share the mirror if you have a pair. One elf is plenty. Either way, the counter gets wiped back to ordinary before the first real tooth-brushing of the day.
Dry tub, clear sink
Turn the faucet off and feel the tub with your hand. The book boat only works if the book stays dry. Leave a paper ticket that says the crossing is dry until bath time, so nobody decides to help by adding water.
Mirror notes, one at a time
One sun, one hello, or one short speech is the whole window. A wall of stickies becomes a scraping project. Write large enough to read from the doorway, then stop. The elf sits on the counter, not hanging from a light.
Crowns and capes without leftovers
Cut the paper crown over the trash, tape it into a ring, and put the scissors away. A clothespin holds a washcloth cape without a pin through the doll. In the morning the cape is a washcloth again.
