Help With My Elf

Parked only

Parked-car elf ideas

The car is a room only while it is parked. These scenes are for the driveway or the garage, engine off, before anyone needs a seat. They are a funny place to find an elf on a morning when you are already heading out. They are a bad place to leave one. Never put the elf in a car seat, on a buckle, or under a belt. Never clip a note where it can slide toward the driver's pedals. Use the passenger visor, an empty cup holder, an empty back seat that is not a child restraint, or the open trunk of a car that cannot roll. Then bring the doll and the paper back inside. Pets who ride in the car will chew a paper snowflake if you leave it on the mat. Kids will reach for a doll in a cup holder if you forget it is there. The note in every car scene says the same thing, and the last step is the real one: take it out before you drive.

Parked, then cleared

Engine off. Parking brake set if you are in the trunk. Do the scene, take the photo if you want one, and put the elf in the house before anyone sits down. A scene you have to remember during the school run is the wrong scene.

Seats are not props

An empty cushion can hold a book for a minute. A car seat, a booster, a buckle, and a belt cannot. If every seat is a restraint, use the cup holder or skip the car. Do not wedge a doll beside a child to 'include' them.

Paper stays in a bag

Cut a snowflake over a bag so scraps do not live under the seat. Clip visor notes with a paperclip you can see and remove. Check the footwell on the driver's side before you call the scene finished.
