The visiting elf idea library
The idea library is the whole site in one list. Filter it for the night you are having: five minutes, no mess, a toddler in the house, a pet on the floor, a goodbye, a first year, two elves, or a room you are already standing in. The search box looks at titles, summaries, and the stuff in your drawers. Every idea has a time, a mess level, and a short list of what you need. Most of that list is already in a drawer. Extra props are marked, with an Amazon search if you want one later. You can ignore the link and use a sock. Those links use the tag tinkerdiversi-20 because that is one way the site keeps the lights on. The setup still works if you buy nothing. Search by the object in your hand. A wooden spoon already has a scene. On Christmas Eve, start with the goodbye list. If the elf did not move, start with the backup notes and the short apology letter, then go to bed. The morning only needs one small surprise. This library is unofficial and not affiliated with The Elf on the Shelf.
How to pick tonight
Start with the constraint, not the cutest photo. Five minutes and no mess will get you to bed. Toddler-safe skips tiny parts. Pet-safe stays off the floor and out of the bowl. If two boxes apply, use both. The right idea is the one you will actually set.
What the labels mean
Time is about five, ten, or fifteen minutes, including the note. Mess is none, low, or medium. Medium means a contained spill you planned to wipe, like oats on a plate. Household items come from the kitchen, the linen closet, or the junk drawer. Extra props are optional and never required for the backups.
Arrival, ordinary nights, goodbye
Arrival is the first morning. Everyday is the middle. Goodbye is Christmas Eve, with a separate list if you want the exit spelled out. First-year scenes sit mostly inside arrival. Two-elf scenes assume two dolls. One doll can ignore that filter without missing the visit.
Print it or don't
A December calendar is a cabinet note to your future self, one title a day. The letters are there when you want full sentences. Neither is mandatory. A pencil on a sticky note has carried plenty of Decembers.
